The Mavericks are continuing to evaluate potential candidates for their head coaching vacancy, with college basketball’s coaching ranks reportedly drawing interest from Dallas.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the organization has held preliminary discussions regarding both Duke head coach Jon Scheyer and Michigan’s Dusty May as it explores possible options.

“It remains to be seen whether Duke’s Jon Scheyer or Michigan’s Dusty May reach full-fledged candidate status with Dallas since both are so entrenched with their universities,” the report states.

League sources indicated that the conversations have primarily been exploratory, aimed at gauging whether either coach would have interest in making the jump to the NBA.

“League sources tell The Stein Line that there has been exploratory conversation with both college titans to try to determine if there is any interest.”

May recently guided Michigan to a national championship, while Scheyer has continued Duke’s success and previously coached Cooper Flagg during the star forward’s freshman season.
