Zach Lowe sees shot creation as the biggest concern surrounding the Miami Heat despite liking the overall makeup of their roster.
Miami is built around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, but Lowe questioned whether the Heat have enough players around their star big men who can consistently generate offense off the dribble.
“My question is do they have enough off the dribble shot creation around their two big guys.
“You might have to go back to the Demarcus cousins/Anthony Davis Pelicans where the two best off the dribble creators on the team were big guys in Giannis and Bam.
“All their pull up shooting went out the door in FA with Norman Powell or Tyler Herro in the trade… Maybe Dru Smith levels up.”
The departures of Powell in free agency and Herro through trade have left Miami without two important perimeter scoring options, putting additional responsibility on the rest of the backcourt.
Dru Smith could take on a larger role, although expecting him to completely solve the Heat’s shot-creation issue would be a significant leap.
Miami may ultimately look outside its current roster for another player capable of creating offense independently.
If that weakness remains during the season, adding another shot creator could become a priority before the trade deadline.
