Washington Wizards general manager Will Dawkins confirmed Thursday that head coach Brian Keefe will remain in place for the 2026–27 season, as the organization begins shifting from a long-term rebuild toward a more competitive direction built around Trae Young and Anthony Davis.
Keefe has posted a 43-160 record over two-plus seasons, including a 17-65 campaign this year, with the team finishing last in Net Rating in back-to-back seasons.
A difficult stretch to close the year, losing 26 of their final 27 games, secured the league’s worst record, ensuring no worse than the fifth pick in May’s draft lottery while also maintaining a top-eight protected first-round pick owed to the New York Knicks.
Despite the results, the front office has emphasized player development, pointing to progress from Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Will Riley and Jamir Watkins during a period focused more on growth than wins.
