The Golden State Warriors are reportedly monitoring the situation between LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers and are prepared to act if the four-time MVP becomes available in free agency.
While there is no certainty that James will leave Los Angeles, Golden State is said to have a plan in place should negotiations between the star forward and the Lakers fail to produce a new agreement.
According to reports, the Warriors would be willing to offer James the full $15 million Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception.
To make that possible, the franchise would need to create enough financial flexibility to operate below the first apron, which would trigger a hard cap if the exception is used.
Golden State reportedly believes it can generate the necessary cap room to make such an offer.
One potential route involves Draymond Green opting out of his current contract and signing a new deal structured with a lower salary for the upcoming season.
Such a move could help create additional spending flexibility for the Warriors.
Another notable connection is that both Green and James are represented by Klutch Sports Group, a factor that could further fuel speculation about a possible partnership in Golden State.
