The Warriors are reportedly losing momentum in their pursuit of Anthony Davis, with the Wizards showing little interest in discussing a trade for the veteran big man.
Instead, Golden State’s attention has shifted toward attempting to sign LeBron James in free agency.
The Warriors created additional financial flexibility after Draymond Green declined his $27.7 million player option, but their recent two-year, $40 million agreement with Kristaps Porzingis has made the salary-cap picture more complicated.
To create enough room for James under the $15.1 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception while also re-signing Green, Golden State would likely need to move Moses Moody into another team’s cap space.
“Right now, I’m taking the Anthony Davis thing off the front burner,” Brian Windhorst said on ESPN’s Get Up.
He added that he has not seen any indication the Wizards are eager to move Davis and noted the Warriors have assured Jimmy Butler he will not be included in any trade.
According to Windhorst, Golden State’s primary focus is now on trying to lure James away from the Lakers.
Meanwhile, Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, recently met with Wizards officials to discuss the star forward’s future as he approaches extension eligibility later this summer.
