The Golden State Warriors are prepared to give Stephen Curry significant control over his next contract with the franchise.
Curry becomes eligible Saturday for a two-year, $136.7 million extension. Along with his roughly $62.5 million salary this season, the deal could keep him in Golden State through 2028-29.
The Warriors are reportedly willing to offer the full amount, accept a smaller deal that provides more roster flexibility or allow Curry to wait until free agency next summer.
“They’re going to go to Steph and say, ‘What type of deal do you want?’” NBA insider Brett Siegel said.
Neither side appears interested in separating, with Curry still expected to finish his career in Golden State. The bigger challenge is keeping the Warriors competitive around their aging superstar.
A maximum extension would limit some of Golden State’s financial flexibility, while a discount could leave more room to strengthen the roster.
Curry could also wait and evaluate the organization’s direction before making another commitment.
Despite playing only 43 games last season because of a knee issue, Curry remains the face of the franchise after leading Golden State to four championships.
The Warriors appear ready to reward him financially while allowing Curry to decide which contract structure best fits the final years of his career.
