Victor Wembanyama has unanimously been named the 2025-26 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the youngest player in league history to win the award at the age of 22.
Wembanyama was on his way to winning the award last season before he was ruled out for the season in February due to deep vein thrombosis.
The San Antonio Spurs big man is the first player in NBA history to receive all first-place votes for Defensive Player of the Year.
Wembanyama led the league in blocks for the third consecutive season, averaging 3.1 per game and totaling 197 overall.
When he was on the court, the San Antonio Spurs gave up only 103.6 points per 100 possessions, compared to 113.7 when he was off the floor.
The young defensive standout has also finished among the top three candidates in the Most Valuable Player race.
Wembanyama has played 3 seasons for the Spurs. He has averaged 23.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 blocks in 181 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game, and has won the Rookie of the Year award.
