UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has provided a health update after surviving an ATV crash while not wearing a helmet.
Strickland initially shared a video of the immediate aftermath, showing his head and body scratched up, before later posting footage of the crash as it happened.
“Guys, I’m in a real bad place,” he said. “I let my buddy drive, he rolled us going, like, 60 (mph). We rolled like six times.
“That was from my head smacking the ground, going 60, did not have a helmet on. I’m an idiot.”
Strickland’s friend Chris Cornell, a cinematographer for the UFC, collapsed after both he and Strickland emerged from the flipped vehicle, and was subsequently taken to ER.
The American middleweight has since taken to Instagram and played down any fears that either sustained a serious injury.
“I think I’m OK,” he said. “Chris Cornell went unconscious for a little bit, he’s in the hospital but I think he’s going to be alright, he just went to sleep for a little bit.
“Honestly, the most f***ing fun I’ve had in a very, very long time. My wallet’s a little sore, Rainbet said they’d cover it so that’s nice. But that was the most fun thing I’ve done in a very long time.
“I hope Chris is OK – I’ve never seen anyone go unconscious before, so that was interesting.”
Strickland, 35, has a history of controversy in the past, with a litany of sexist and racist remarks landing him in hot water.
It is also not the first time he has been involved in a motor vehicle crash, with a motorcycle action in 2018 forcing him out of the octagon for two years.
A two-time middleweight champion, he is yet to book a first title defence of his second reign after dethroning Khamzat Chimaev in May.
