Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal step up Guimaraes pursuit, Liverpool turn attention to Akliouche, Man Utd weigh up Kone bid

Arsenal are set to step up their pursuit of Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes after missing out on another major target as Morgan Rogers completed his record move to Chelsea.

The Premier League champions want to strengthen their midfield and are poised to test Newcastle’s resolve, with the Magpies holding out for a fee similar to Sandro Tonali’s potential £100m move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are reportedly still interested in adding another midfielder after signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans and are said to be in talks with Roma for France international Manu Kone.

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has set out his targets for the transfer window and has confirmed the Reds “definitely need to sign a winger”. The Reds have now reportedly turned their attention towards Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche.

Roberto De Zerbi expecting more Tottenham signings after £237m spending spree

Roberto De Zerbi feels Tottenham’s summer spending spree is “not finished yet” as he looks to “build a soul” for his new-look team.

“I feel very good because we are working well. I think we are building a very good team, with some very important new players, and we are starting the project in another part of the history of the club,” De Zerbi told SpursPlay.

“I spent a lot of time (understanding the club) before joining in April and I knew very well the ideas of the owner of the club and the plan was clear before the Everton game.

“Now we are inside (the project), we are excited with the idea to build a very strong team. Now we have to finish as it is not finished yet, our transfer market, in and out, but at the moment I am very happy, very proud and very positive.

“To build a soul, to build a new team with the qualities for sure but with soul, with passion, with all the values we have.

“Football now is not just on the pitch, it’s not just with the ball, it is before in the private life, it is how many hours during the day you think you are doing your job and they have to be happy and proud to stay in Tottenham.”

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on futures of Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola wants both goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Alexis Mac Allister to stay at the club, despite both first-team stars being linked with a move away.

Alisson has one year remaining on his contract while Mac Allister has two years, but the club have not opened discussions on a new deal and he has been linked with a move to Spain.

Iraola said Alisson was one of the senior players who could help the club in a transition period, while praising Mac Allister and saying he wants to keep him.

“We need the references like Virgil (van Dijk), like Alisson, like Joe Gomez, players that have been here for a long time. And I’m sure we will have this help, yes.”

He added: “I think Alexis has been one of the best players of the club last year and has had a very good World Cup. It is normal that other clubs want our best players, our good players, it always happens in other markets.

“But I want to, also as other clubs want, I want to keep my good players. Probably I’m looking forward more to signing new players than the ones we have here.”
