ASVEL Villeurbanne is reportedly on the verge of a dramatic financial transformation, with BasketNews market estimates suggesting the French club could enter next season among the EuroLeague’s biggest spenders.
Multiple sources indicate ASVEL’s player payroll could exceed €20 million and potentially approach €25 million, a figure that would place the club alongside Europe’s financial heavyweights and possibly among the league’s top three budgets.
However, the plan still requires final approval from the club’s investors.
The expected rise comes after a season in which ASVEL did not reach the EuroLeague’s minimum payroll threshold of €5.85 million, highlighting the scale of the projected increase.
According to BasketNews, four American investors are expected to join the project, while EuroHoops has linked former Los Angeles Lakers owners Joey and Jesse Buss to the initiative.
ASVEL has already shown its ambitions by signing Armoni Brooks to a deal worth more than €2 million per season after beating out offers from Olimpia Milano and Partizan.
The club is also pursuing French stars Sylvain Francisco and Frank Ntilikina, while Tony Parker could become the highest-paid coach in French basketball history with a reported salary of €1.2-1.3 million annually.
The message is clear: ASVEL intends to become a major force in the EuroLeague transfer market and challenge the continent’s traditional powerhouses.
