Marc Stad is taking control of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx after reaching a deal to acquire the majority of Marc Lore’s stake, according to ESPN.
The agreement puts a $4.5 billion value on the franchises and makes Stad their largest shareholder.
The Dragoneer Investment Group founder was already part of the ownership group as a major minority investor alongside Lore and Alex Rodriguez.
The ownership shift follows months of negotiations, but it is not expected to result in major changes to how the organizations are run.
Stad, Lore and Rodriguez will remain involved, with Rodriguez retaining his ownership interest in both teams.
Elisa Stad, Marc Stad’s wife, will represent the Timberwolves as the franchise’s governor.
The $4.5 billion valuation also adds another massive transaction to an extraordinary period for NBA ownership.
In just 17 months, the league’s four biggest sales have all been recorded:
Lakers – $12.5 billion
Lakers – $10 billion
Celtics – $6.1 billion
Timberwolves/Lynx – $4.5 billion
