The Oklahoma City Thunder have added another young guard to their development pipeline, agreeing to a two-way NBA contract with undrafted guard Josh Dix, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
Dix enters the Thunder organization after a four-year college career split between Iowa and Creighton. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 34 games during his senior season at Creighton, starting all 34 contests.
His final college season showed a shift in role as Dix became a primary perimeter option. He attempted 6.0 three-pointers per game but shot 33.8% from beyond the arc after making 42.2% of his threes during his junior year at Iowa.
Across his college career, Dix appeared in 131 games with 86 starts, averaging 9.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 48.5% from the field and 38.4% from three-point range.
The Thunder’s decision comes after a season in which they finished with the NBA’s best regular-season record at 64-18 and reached the Western Conference Finals before falling to the San Antonio Spurs in seven games.
Oklahoma City already has one of the league’s deepest young guard groups, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cason Wallace, Ajay Mitchell and Nikola Topic.
Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 31.1 points and 6.6 assists per game while finishing first in MVP voting. Wallace averaged 8.6 points, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 77 games, earning All-Defensive Second Team honors. Mitchell contributed 13.6 points and 3.6 assists per game while finishing fifth in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
Dix fits the Thunder’s preference for versatile perimeter players who can contribute in multiple areas. His size, shooting history and ability to handle the ball give Oklahoma City another developmental guard option behind its established rotation.
The signing follows a busy draft period for the Thunder. Oklahoma City selected Michigan big man Aday Mara at No. 12 overall and later acquired additional young talent through draft-night moves, including Bennett Stirtz at No. 16 before he was traded.
The Thunder also added Kentucky guard Otega Oweh at No. 41 after a trade with the Miami Heat.
