Tari Eason helped drive the Houston Rockets to a 115-96 Game 4 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night at Toyota Center, extending the Western Conference series to Game 5.
Eason, who delivered a strong two-way performance, described the team’s mindset entering a do-or-die situation after falling behind 0-3 in the series.
He said, “It was just a fight from start to finish. The most important thing for me was just to stay present even through the loss the other day.”
Eason emphasized the emotional response following the previous defeat and how Houston chose to react as a group. He said, “I knew that a lot of people would hang their head or a lot of people were calling in, but we’re a young team and this could make us closer.”
The Rockets forward framed the game as a focus exercise rather than a statement about the series outcome. He said, “It doesn’t really say too much. This is what we prepared for. It’s one win on to the next.”
Defensively, Eason was tasked with guarding LeBron James for significant stretches, and he pointed to physicality and pressure as the main approach. He said, “He’s a hell of a player. I mean he’s LeBron James, he’s a hell of a player. So, just try to make things difficult, try to be physical with them. Ball pressure, high hands, stuff like that.”
The Lakers star finished with 10 points, nine assists, and eight turnovers, as Houston’s defensive structure forced 23 total turnovers from Los Angeles.
Eason also dismissed any significance from a late-game confrontation, keeping the focus on the next matchup. He said, “This game is over. So, on to the next one.”
Houston head coach Ime Udoka had previously noted Eason’s ability to shift defensive roles mid-possession, something Eason described as reading offensive movement. He said, “It’s just about reading how the offense is shifting when I’m on defense. Who’s catching the ball, where they’re catching the ball, if they’re in an uncomfortable position.”
The Rockets’ defensive tone was set early, with Houston building a double-digit halftime lead and extending control in the third quarter. Eason credited collective execution rather than scheme changes.
He said, “I don’t think the emphasis was too much different. I think we all did a much better job defensively. I think coming out the gate, I think that was the biggest difference.”
Physical perimeter pressure remained a key theme, with Houston limiting rhythm for Los Angeles’ primary scorers. The Rockets held the Lakers to just five made three-pointers.
Eason also addressed team energy and consistency, saying, “It’s infectious. My biggest thing is to just stay present and stay in the moment.”
Alperen Sengun’s leadership earlier in the day also played into the team’s mindset, with Eason noting the message about resilience after falling behind in the series.
He said, “We know that if we do the right things and work really hard and stay focused very very focused that anything is possible.”
Game 5 shifts back to Los Angeles on Wednesday, with Houston attempting to extend its season again after avoiding elimination at home.
