The Phoenix Suns are signing center Duop Reath, according to Shams Charania, adding frontcourt depth after Mark Williams was ruled out for several months with a shoulder injury.
Reath spent the past three seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers after beginning his professional career overseas and in the G League. The 30-year-old center appeared in 32 NBA games for Portland during the 2025-26 season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.2 rebounds in 8.0 minutes per game.
His most productive NBA season came in 2023-24, when Reath played 68 games for Portland and averaged 9.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 17.9 minutes. He shot 46.1% from the field and 35.9% from three-point range while making 74.2% of his free throws.
Reath also demonstrated significant shooting range for a center during his time in the NBA. He connected on 41.8% of his three-point attempts in limited action last season, although he attempted only 1.4 threes per game.
The Suns now bring him into a frontcourt that has lost its primary center for an extended period. Williams averaged 11.7 points and 8.0 rebounds in 60 games last season while shooting 64.4% from the field. He started 55 games and played 23.6 minutes per night.
Williams’ absence increases the importance of Phoenix’s remaining big men. Oso Ighodaro averaged 6.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 82 games last season, while Khaman Maluach contributed 3.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 46 appearances.
Reath provides another option at center while the Suns navigate the injury. His ability to stretch the floor could also complement Phoenix’s perimeter-heavy offensive personnel, led by Devin Booker, Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks.
Booker averaged 26.1 points and 6.0 assists last season, while Green averaged 17.8 points in 32 games after joining Phoenix. Brooks added a career-best 20.2 points per game and recently agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension.
Phoenix finished 45-37 last season before losing in the first round of the playoffs. The Suns have otherwise maintained continuity this offseason, re-signing Williams, Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin while adding Miles Bridges and Luke Kennard.
Reath’s arrival gives the Suns another experienced big man as they prepare for the 2026-27 season without Williams for the opening stretch.
