Stephen Curry has publicly renewed his recruitment of LeBron James as the Golden State Warriors continue hoping to convince the four-time NBA champion to join the franchise.
Appearing on Good Morning America on Wednesday, Curry highlighted the Warriors’ winning culture, the Bay Area lifestyle, and the opportunity for James to end his career alongside one of his longtime rivals.
“The Bay: We know how to win, beautiful weather, great golf. I know he’s into that,” the Golden State star said. “We just know how to play basketball, and I think that he would enjoy just the idea of what it means to finish your career the right way.”
Curry’s comments came as reports suggest Golden State has slipped behind the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers in the race for James.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, those three teams are now viewed as the primary contenders, while other reports indicate James is expected to remain in the Eastern Conference.
The Warriors had previously been considered one of the favorites, thanks in part to the chemistry Curry and James displayed while helping Team USA win Olympic gold in Paris under Steve Kerr.
Draymond Green has also reportedly tried to persuade James, while Golden State strengthened its roster by bringing back veteran contributors and adding former Lakers championship coach Frank Vogel to the staff.
