The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a deal with Taelon Peter, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Peter will join the Spurs for training camp after spending his rookie season with the Indiana Pacers.
Peter, the No. 54 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, appeared in 38 games for Indiana during the 2025-26 season. He averaged 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 12.9 minutes per game, shooting 38.0% from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range.
The 24-year-old guard was used primarily as a reserve, making zero starts. He attempted 3.3 3-pointers per game and converted 32.8% of them, while shooting 57.6% on his 2-point attempts.
San Antonio enters camp with a substantially deeper young core after reaching the 2026 NBA Finals. The Spurs finished the regular season 62-20, second in the Western Conference, before defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 4-2 in the conference semifinals and Oklahoma City Thunder 4-3 in the Western Conference Finals.
The Spurs ultimately lost the NBA Finals to the New York Knicks 4-1, with San Antonio’s five-game series including a 115-111 win in Game 3. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs during the regular season with 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game in 64 appearances.
San Antonio’s backcourt already includes De’Aaron Fox, who averaged 18.6 points and 6.2 assists in 72 games, and Stephon Castle, who posted 16.7 points and 7.4 assists in 68 games. Devin Vassell added 13.9 points while shooting 38.4% from 3-point range.
The Spurs also added four players through the 2026 NBA Draft: Jayden Quaintance at No. 20, Tarris Reed Jr. at No. 26, Ja’Kobi Gillespie at No. 42 and Maliq Brown at No. 44. Peter’s training-camp opportunity therefore comes with significant competition for backcourt and wing minutes.
San Antonio also signed Tobias Harris to a two-year, $31 million contract and extended Wembanyama on a five-year, $252 million rookie-scale maximum deal. The addition of Peter gives the Spurs another young perimeter player to evaluate as they continue building around Wembanyama.
Peter’s agreement does not guarantee a regular-season rotation role. His performance in training camp and preseason will determine whether he can earn a place behind San Antonio’s established guards and wings.
