The San Antonio Spurs are bringing back veteran point guard Jordan McLaughlin after reaching a one-year, $3.3 million agreement, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. McLaughlin appeared in 44 games for San Antonio during the 2025-26 season and will enter his ninth NBA campaign.
The move gives the reigning Western Conference champions continuity at the point guard position after a season that ended with a trip to the NBA Finals. San Antonio finished 62-20, the second-best record in the NBA, before defeating the Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs to reach the Finals, where the Spurs fell to the New York Knicks in five games.
McLaughlin played a limited reserve role behind starters De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle. In 44 regular-season appearances, he averaged 2.0 points, 0.9 assists and 0.7 rebounds in 6.4 minutes per game while shooting 41.8% from the field and 42.5% from three-point range.
Across 332 career NBA games, McLaughlin owns averages of 3.8 points, 2.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds while shooting 44.3% from the field and 37.7% from beyond the arc. Since entering the league with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019, he has also spent time with the Sacramento Kings before joining the Spurs during the 2024-25 season.
San Antonio’s backcourt remains one of the league’s deepest entering the 2026-27 campaign. Fox earned another All-Star selection after averaging 18.6 points and 6.2 assists across 72 games, while Castle made another major leap in his sophomore season with 16.7 points and 7.4 assists per game. Rookie Dylan Harper also emerged as an important contributor, averaging 11.8 points and 3.9 assists while finishing fourth in Rookie of the Year voting.
The Spurs’ foundation continues to revolve around Victor Wembanyama, who captured Defensive Player of the Year honors and finished third in MVP voting after averaging 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. The roster also added frontcourt depth during the 2026 NBA Draft by selecting Jayden Quaintance with the 20th overall pick and acquiring Tarris Reid Jr. later in the first round.
