Tennis legend Roger Federer had an unexpected encounter at a Golden State Warriors game when he approached a man resembling head coach Steve Kerr and took several selfies with him.
The man, identified as Gillis, recalled how Federer approached him and posed for three pictures before thanking him.
“He takes three selfies with me. And then he pats me on the shoulder and says, ‘Thanks.’ …The fact that he was so gracious and nice about it, I’m thinking, ‘I wonder if he knew I wasn’t Steve Kerr?’” he said.
Gillis was left wondering whether Federer genuinely believed he was the Warriors coach or simply recognized the resemblance and decided to play along.
Regardless of the possible mix-up, Gillis was impressed by the tennis legend’s friendly and respectful behavior.
Kerr has spent more than 12 years coaching Golden State, leading the franchise to four NBA championships and becoming one of the league’s most recognizable figures.
