The Detroit Pistons have emerged as a potential landing spot for Tyler Herro as part of the larger trade landscape surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo, with the franchise reportedly discussing a deal that could send multiple rotation players to Miami.
Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reported Monday that Detroit has been involved in discussions regarding Herro and that three key Pistons players — Isaiah Stewart, Duncan Robinson and Ron Holland — are candidates to be moved in such a trade.
The Pistons would not be acquiring Antetokounmpo directly. Instead, Detroit could serve as a third-team participant in a framework that helps facilitate a potential Giannis move from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat.
Herro would address one of Detroit’s biggest offseason priorities: adding more perimeter scoring and shot creation around Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren.
The 26-year-old guard is entering the final season of a four-year, $120 million contract and is coming off an All-Star campaign in 2024-25. He averaged 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting 47.2% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range over 77 games.
In 2025-26, Herro averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 33 appearances while maintaining strong efficiency. He shot 48.0% overall, 37.8% from three and 91.7% from the free-throw line.
Detroit finished the 2025-26 regular season with the best record in the Eastern Conference at 60-22, but the roster remains built around Cunningham’s offensive workload. Cunningham averaged 23.9 points and 9.9 assists while playing 33.9 minutes per game, earning All-NBA First Team recognition.
Adding Herro would give the Pistons another high-level perimeter creator who can score without requiring every possession to run through Cunningham.
The potential cost would include Stewart, who averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 22.7 minutes per game last season. Stewart, 25, is entering the third year of a four-year, $60 million contract and has become one of Detroit’s most reliable frontcourt defenders.
Former Heat player Robinson, 32, would represent the largest shooting loss. The veteran wing averaged 12.2 points while shooting 41.0% from three on 7.0 attempts per game during the 2025-26 season. He is entering the second year of a three-year, $48 million deal.
Holland is the long-term piece in the potential package. The 20-year-old wing averaged 8.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 78 games during his second season while shooting 25.3% from three. He remains under team control through the 2027-28 season with a team option.
