The New Orleans Pelicans have signed forward Solomon Washington to a training camp deal, according to HoopsHype.
Washington joins New Orleans after spending the 2025-26 season at Maryland, where he took on a significantly larger role following two seasons at Texas A&M.
The forward averaged 9.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 25 games for the Terrapins, playing 32.0 minutes per game. He shot 44.0% from the field, 24.3% from three-point range and 63.3% from the free-throw line.
Washington also averaged 3.1 offensive rebounds and 6.1 defensive rebounds per game at Maryland while recording 1.1 steals and 1.8 turnovers.
His production marked a significant increase in playing time compared with his first three collegiate seasons. Washington averaged 3.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game as a freshman at Texas A&M in 2022-23 before posting 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in 2023-24.
In 2024-25, Washington averaged 4.5 points and 5.1 rebounds while playing 22.1 minutes per game for the Aggies. He then transferred to Maryland and became a regular contributor, nearly doubling his scoring average while also becoming a more productive rebounder.
Washington also appeared in three games during the 2026 NBA Summer League. He averaged 3.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 21.1 minutes per game, while shooting 44.4% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. He added 2.0 steals per game and averaged 3.0 offensive rebounds.
The training camp opportunity gives Washington a chance to compete for a place in a Pelicans frontcourt that includes Zion Williamson, Derik Queen, Karlo Matkovic and Yves Missi.
New Orleans is coming off a 25-56 season and has undergone changes in both its coaching staff and front office. Jamahl Mosley was hired as head coach in May, while Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver are overseeing basketball operations.
The Pelicans largely maintained their core during the offseason, with Williamson, Dejounte Murray, Herb Jones, Jordan Poole, Queen and Saddiq Bey remaining in place. Bey signed a three-year, $55.5 million extension after averaging a career-high 17.7 points per game last season.
New Orleans also added Bennedict Mathurin on a two-year, $16 million contract after creating roster and salary flexibility through its September trade with Memphis involving Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy, AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson.
