Norman Powell named the Los Angeles Lakers as the most overrated team in the NBA when asked by popular streamer N3on to identify the league’s most overrated team.
N3on asked, “Who is the most overrated team in the NBA?” Powell answered simply: “The Lakers.”
Powell’s assessment comes after a major offseason transformation in Los Angeles, with the Lakers moving into a new era built around Luka Doncic following LeBron James’ departure to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Doncic was the Lakers’ leading scorer in 2025-26, averaging 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 64 games. He shot 47.6% from the field, 36.6% from three-point range and 78.0% from the free-throw line while earning All-NBA First Team honors and finishing fourth in MVP voting.
Austin Reaves also produced at an All-Star-level offensive rate, averaging 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 51 games. He shot 49.0% from the field, 36.0% from three and 87.1% from the free-throw line.
James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 60 games during his final Lakers season. The 41-year-old shot 51.5% from the field but made only 31.7% of his three-point attempts before leaving Los Angeles in free agency.
The Lakers’ offseason moves changed the roster substantially. Los Angeles re-signed Reaves to a four-year, $180 million contract and added Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Sexton, Kevon Looney, Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams in free agency.
The team also acquired Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz in a sign-and-trade worth four years and $129.5 million, sending two unprotected first-round picks and two first-round swaps to Utah. Deandre Ayton was subsequently traded to the Washington Wizards for Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks.
Several members of last season’s rotation also departed. Rui Hachimura signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, Marcus Smart joined the Houston Rockets, Luke Kennard signed with the Phoenix Suns and Jaxson Hayes moved to the Utah Jazz.
