Monaco is exploring every possible option to secure its future, including potentially moving to a different domestic competition.
According to Serbian outlet “Sport Club,” Monaco has offered €500,000 in an attempt to obtain a wildcard for the ABA League. However, the chances of the proposal being accepted currently appear limited.
The club is facing relegation to the lower levels of French basketball, creating uncertainty about where it will compete domestically next season.
The ABA League could theoretically provide an alternative. As a privately operated competition, it has already expanded beyond the former Yugoslav region, with Dubai BC being the most prominent recent example.
However, there are significant obstacles standing in Monaco’s way. The ABA League has already confirmed the 20 clubs participating next season and released its schedule.
The competition has also decided to limit membership to 20 teams, which will be separated into two groups.
Monaco is therefore reportedly willing to pay for a place, but with the league already full and its plans finalized, securing a wildcard appears highly unlikely.
