The New York Knicks are adding Ed Flynn to Mike Brown’s coaching staff, where he will take over responsibility for advising on replay challenges.
Flynn spent the past three seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans, eventually becoming their head video coordinator. His official Knicks title will be assistant coach/special situations.
During games, Flynn will review plays in real time and recommend whether Brown should use a challenge. He replaces Jordan Brink, who handled the role for the previous two seasons.
Brink made a particularly important recommendation during Game 2 of the NBA Finals. His challenge with 2:37 remaining overturned a Knicks turnover and resulted in three free throws for OG Anunoby during New York’s 105-104 win over San Antonio.
After his Knicks contract expired, Brink joined the Chicago Bulls as an assistant under Tiago Splitter.
Flynn previously played at Williams College before working as a graduate assistant at the University of Miami and later joining the Charlotte Hornets’ video department.
Most of Brown’s staff will remain unchanged, with Chris Jent, Rick Brunson, Brendan O’Connor and Darren Erman returning alongside player-development coaches Kwadzo Ahelegbe and Peter Patton.
