Mid Kerry have booked their place in the last four of the Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Football Championship.
They won their quarter-final against Spa in Austin Stack Park, Tralee by 1-28 to 2-9.
The first score of the encounter was a Spa goal, Cian Tobin netting after 4 minutes. Mid Kerry responded with a point, then hit two more to draw level by the 9th minute. Liam Carey pointed Mid Kerry in front at 0-4 to 1-0. Sean O’Brien doubled that advantage. Mid Kerry led by 7 points to 1-1 after 18 minutes. A Daire Cleary goal for Mid Kerry 5 minutes from half time had them 10 clear. A Sean O’Brien two pointe extended the gap to 1-13 to 1-11. Shane Cronin goaled for Spa in the final minute but at half time the District were ahead by 1-16 to 2-2.
Mid Kerry had 5 of the opening 6 points in the second period to push further ahead, at 1-22 to 2-3. They eased to a 16 points victory.
At the same venue Dingle defeated West Kerry 1-16 to 0-13.
After West Kerry registered the opening point Paul Geaney put over a 2 pointer for Dingle. West Kerry then lost Franz Sauerland to injury but soon equalised to make it 2 all. Dingle raced into a 4 point leads thanks to points from Paul Geaney and Dylan Geaney, and a 2 pointer by Ned Ryan. Dingle were ahead by double scores, 6-3, after 12 minutes. Points from Cian O’Grada and Ruaidhri O’Beaglaoich brought West Kerry within 1, at 0-6 to 0-5 after quarter of an hour. With Dingle ahead by 7 points to 5 in the 20th minute Dingle were awarded a penalty which was converted by Paul Geaney. With the score at 1-8 to 0-6 after 26 minutes Dingle were reduced to 14, Conchuir O’Flannura picking up a second yellow card. It was 1-9 to 0-6 at half time.
The gap was 5, at 1-10 to 0-8, seven minutes into the second half. A Cathal O’Beaglaoich 2 pointer brought them within 3. Paul Geaney put 4 between the sides in the 40th minute; 1-11 to 1-10. At the 3/4 stage DIngle were ahead by 1-13 to 0-10. Another Cathal O’Beaglaoich 2 pointer reduced the deficit to 4. Dingle had a response each time and were leading 1-14 to 0-13 thirteen minutes from time. The winning margin was 6.
Naas are the Kildare senior hurling champions for a seventh time in a row.
Cian Boran, Ferran O’Sullivan and Killian Harrington hit the back of the net in a 3-15 to 16 point win over Maynooth in today’s final.
They’ll now play Carlow’s Mount Leinster Rangers in the first round of the Leinster championship.
Carnew Emmets won their first Wicklow hurling final since 2009 by getting the better of Bray Emmets by 16 points to 2-8.
In football, Gaoth Dobhair and Naomh Conaill have gone to extra time in the Donegal decider.
Shea Malone kicked a two pointer deep into stoppage time to leave the sides level 1-13 each after full time.
Naomh Conaill lead 2-16 to 1-13 in the extra time period.
Meanwhile, Dunloy won their first Antrim Senior title in 89 years with a 9 point win over Cargin.
Summerhill had 3 points to spare over Ratoath in the Meath football final.
