Mark Cuban appears to have conceded his long-running public disagreement with Pablo Torre over the Kawhi Leonard-Clippers controversy.
After the NBA handed the Clippers severe penalties for violating salary-cap circumvention rules, Cuban responded to Torre with just two words:
“Congrats Pablo.”
The message represented a sharp reversal. Cuban had strongly defended Clippers owner Steve Ballmer after Torre first reported that Leonard received a $28 million endorsement agreement from Aspiration, a company backed by Ballmer.
“I’m on Team Ballmer,” Cuban previously said, arguing Ballmer “isn’t that dumb” and had been a victim of Aspiration rather than knowingly participating in cap circumvention.
Torre continued investigating, uncovering additional financial connections involving the Clippers and Aspiration, as well as questions surrounding Leonard’s relationship with Daktronics.
His work eventually helped “Pablo Torre Finds Out” win the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting.
The NBA ultimately stripped the Clippers of five first-round picks and fined the franchise $30 million. Ballmer received a one-year suspension, while Leonard was ordered to pay $700,000 in restitution.
Torre responded to Cuban’s message with a hamburger emoji.
Cuban did not explicitly apologize, but after spending months challenging Torre’s reporting, “Congrats Pablo” represented a notable acknowledgment that the journalist had been vindicated.
