Man United v Brentford LIVE: Team news with Yoro a doubt for crucial clash in battle for European places

Manchester United host Brentford in a crucial clash in the battle for European places at the pointy end of the Premier League season.

The hosts remain third in the table, level on points with both Liverpool and Aston Villa and looking well placed to earn a berth in next season’s Champions League. Michael Carrick will be keen, though, for his team to finish strongly – not least with a permanent role at Old Trafford potentially within his grasp if he can avoid letting things slip in these last few weeks.

Things are rather more fraught for Brentford with just four points separating sixth place from 12th in a congested clutch of contenders for a continental adventure. A win here would vault Keith Andrews’s side above Brighton the head of the queue. The Londoners have already beaten Manchester United once this season – can they do it again?

How the table looks

It’s certainly tight at the top. Man Utd currently sit third in the table, 12 points off City in second but level with fourth-placed Liverpool and third-placed Aston Villa, and are only above the Reds thanks to their superior number of goals scored.

However, Michael Carrick’s side have a game in hand on both clubs.

Brentford are down in ninth but level on points with eighth-placed Chelsea and 10th-placed Fulham, and would leap into sixth, displacing Brighton, with a win tonight.

Man Utd v Brentford

The hosts look increasingly certain to secure a top-five Premier League finish and entry into the Champions League this season, while their visitors from London are part of a congested thicket of clubs battling behind that top echelon.

Brentford beat their opponents 3-1 in the reverse fixture early in the campaign and another similar success would be a significant boost.
