LeBron James’ camp has pushed back on reports suggesting his move to the Philadelphia 76ers will be documented as the final chapter of his playing career.
On Thursday, longtime business partner Maverick Carter dismissed comparisons between a potential ESPN project and Michael Jordan’s The Last Dance.
“We are NOT doing anything like the ‘last dance,’” Carter wrote on X. “LeBron doesn’t even know when his last season is.”
James later shared Carter’s post on his own account, signaling his agreement without adding any additional comments.
The response came after a report from The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand claimed ESPN was close to finalizing a behind-the-scenes documentary following James during his time with the 76ers.
While the report compared the project to The Last Dance, Carter emphasized that nothing has been framed as a farewell series.
James’ future beyond the upcoming season remains uncertain despite recently signing a two-year, $8 million contract with Philadelphia.
His agent, Rich Paul, recently suggested the 41-year-old could continue playing longer than many expect.
“I think Philadelphia’s going to energize him,” Paul told ESPN. “Maybe we get two [seasons]. Maybe we get four.”
James is coming off another productive campaign and now joins a 76ers roster featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown.
For now, James’ camp insists one thing is clear: no one – not even LeBron himself – knows exactly when his NBA career will end.
