LeBron James pointed directly to turnovers and offensive execution as the deciding factor after the Los Angeles Lakers fell 115-96 to the Houston Rockets in Game 4 of their Western Conference playoff series on Sunday night in Houston.

LeBron emphasized the importance of ball security against a Rockets team that converted mistakes into points at a high rate. “Our kryptonite tonight” and “pick sixes” were the phrases he used to describe the Lakers’ live-ball turnovers.

He also took responsibility for the issue early in his assessment of the loss. “It started with me obviously. My turnover was unacceptable but we do a better job with that on Wednesday,” he said.

The Lakers committed 23 turnovers in total, which directly fed Houston’s transition scoring and helped create separation during key runs in the second and third quarters.

LeBron highlighted that the defensive side was not the primary issue despite the margin of defeat. “Defense was not our problem. That was our offense,” he said, pointing to the 24 turnovers and their impact on the game flow.

He also addressed the Rockets’ ability to capitalize on mistakes. “You give them credit where credit is due. They won the game tonight,” he added, acknowledging Houston’s efficiency in converting Lakers errors into points.

When asked about the team’s mindset heading into Game 5 in Los Angeles, LeBron rejected any sense of comfort despite holding a series advantage earlier. “There’s no such thing as being comfortable until a series is done. No,” he said.

The veteran forward also noted that the team already understands the required adjustments. “We knew before the series even started. We knew and we understand that if we want to win this series that we have to protect the ball and we have to defensive rebound,” he said.

LeBron stressed that nothing about the approach will change heading into the next matchup. “It’s the same as it was going in the first four. We understand what our game plan is and we didn’t execute that. It’s a 48 minutes today,” he said.

Houston’s defensive pressure and transition game played a central role in shifting momentum, with Amen Thompson scoring 23 points and Tari Eason adding 20 as the Rockets avoided elimination and cut the series deficit to 3-1.

The Lakers were also disrupted by a lack of perimeter production, but LeBron kept the focus on possession control rather than shooting variance. “Offensive rebounds for them and pick sixes is not going to be good for our ball club,” he said.

He concluded by reinforcing the expectation of correction rather than concern. “We understand it. We know it and we will be better,” LeBron said, as the series now shifts back to Los Angeles for Game 5.
