Game 3 of the Western Conference first-round series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets arrives with major injury implications on both sides. The official NBA injury report confirms multiple rotation-defining absences and questionable tags ahead of tip-off at the Toyota Center.

The Lakers enter Game 3 with Luka Doncic ruled out due to a left hamstring strain sustained during the injury and illness designation period. The All-NBA guard has averaged 33.5 points and 8.3 assists per game this season, serving as the central engine of the Lakers’ half-court offense.

Without Doncic, Los Angeles leans more heavily on LeBron James, who has produced 20.9 points and 7.2 assists per game across 60 appearances. Deandre Ayton’s interior efficiency also becomes a key structural element, given his 67.1% field-goal rate in the regular season.

Austin Reaves remains listed as questionable with a left oblique muscle strain. His availability carries tactical weight given his 23.3 points and 5.5 assists per game output, particularly in secondary creation when the Lakers operate without their primary initiator.

Houston’s injury picture is equally significant, with Fred VanVleet ruled out for the season due to right knee ACL recovery. Steven Adams is also out following left ankle surgery..

The most impactful uncertainty surrounds Kevin Durant, who is listed as questionable with a left ankle sprain. Durant has averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 52.0% shooting, remaining the Rockets’ primary half-court scoring option.

Alperen Sengun’s playmaking role becomes even more critical if Durant is limited or unavailable. The center has produced 20.4 points and 6.2 assists per game while operating as a high-post facilitator in Houston’s offensive structure.

Houston also adjusts its interior rotation without Adams, relying more heavily on Clint Capela and Sengun for rebounding and paint protection. Capela’s 8.6 rebounds per game offer a stabilizing presence in short-minute defensive lineups.

The Lakers hold a 2-0 advantage after back-to-back wins in Los Angeles.
