The Los Angeles Lakers took a hands-on approach before deciding to add small forward Ziaire Williams to their roster.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, senior advisor Kurt Rambis and assistant coaches Nate McMillan and Greg St. Jean were all present in Las Vegas to watch Williams participate in a private workout before the team signed him.
Following that evaluation, the Lakers completed a one-year veteran minimum contract with Williams, a move that became official on Sunday.
Stein reports that the Lakers’ front office wanted to assess Williams’ overall development firsthand, with particular attention given to the progress he has made since entering the NBA.
One of the key areas the organization focused on during the workout was his perimeter shooting, as the Lakers evaluated improvements to his long-range accuracy before deciding to bring him to Los Angeles.
Williams has played 5 seasons for the Grizzlies and Nets. He has averaged 8.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 269 regular-season games.
