The Los Angeles Lakers are continuing to reshape their basketball operations department, officially adding Keith D’Amelio and Eric Amsler to the organization.
D’Amelio has been hired as director of integrated performance systems, while Amsler’s previously reported move to Los Angeles is now official. He will serve as assistant general manager of player personnel.
The additions represent the Lakers’ first major organizational hires since Mark Walter agreed to sell majority ownership of the franchise to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger in a deal valuing the team at $12.5 billion.
“Continuing to invest in and strengthen our basketball operations group is a top priority as we build for the long-term success of our team and players,” Lakers president of basketball operations/general manager Rob Pelinka said in a statement.
“Eric and Keith bring a wealth of experience that will add valuable expertise across our organization. Eric is a highly respected talent evaluator with an extensive background in scouting and player personnel, while Keith brings a unique perspective at the intersection of athlete health, performance, sport science and technology. We are excited to welcome them both to the Lakers.”
D’Amelio brings more than 25 years of experience in professional and college sports. He most recently served as chief innovation officer for the New York Liberty, working in areas including basketball operations, health and performance, analytics and applied science.
Before joining the Liberty, D’Amelio spent 13 years with Nike and previously held positions with Stanford men’s basketball, the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics.
Amsler arrives after spending 22 years with the Miami Heat. He began as an intern in 2004-05 and worked his way through several positions before eventually becoming the organization’s vice president of player personnel.
