Free agent center Kevon Looney has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN.

The three-time NBA champion gives the Lakers an experienced backup center after spending his entire career with the Golden State Warriors.

Looney is expected to strengthen Los Angeles’ frontcourt while providing reliable screening and pick-and-roll play alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, skills he developed playing with stars such as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala.

The Lakers entered the market for another center after trading Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards and losing Jaxson Hayes to the Utah Jazz in free agency.

Los Angeles had also shown interest in Andre Drummond, but he ultimately chose to sign with the New York Knicks, paving the way for the Lakers to land Looney instead.
