Kerry exit All-Ireland Minor Football Championship

Kerry are out of the Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship.

The Kingdom were beaten by Kildare at Limerick’s Gaelic Grounds by 4-12 to 2-13.

The opening score was a 3rd minute Kildare goal. It was double scores after 7 minutes at 1-1 to 0-2. Kildare were the stronger outfit in the opening quarter, leading by 1-3 to 0-2. Kerry, playing against a strong wind, trailed by 1-4 to 0-3 after 21 minutes. A Danny Murphy point brought Kerry within 3. Kildare had the next 3 points to go 6 clear after 28 minutes at 1-7 to 0-4. After the Kingdom pulled a point back Kildare put over their second two pointer of the encounter. They got another virtually on the half time whistle to make it 1-11 to 0-5.

Kerry had the first point of the second period, Daragh Keane putting over 6 minutes in. Danny Lane added to that 6 minutes later, making it 1-11 to 0-7. Approaching the 3/4 stage Kildare netted to open up a ten point advantage at 2-11 to 0-7. A Maidhc O’Se goal with 9 minutes remaining had the score at 2-12 to 1-7. Killian Fitzgerald then registered a Kingdom 2 pointer to close the gap to 6 at 2-12 to 1-9. However, a minute later Kildare goaled to put the issue beyond doubt. The sides swapped goals right at the end.
