After the Washington Wizards have Trae Young sign its extension with a huge four-year contract of $212 million, they have to make the next tough decision.
As the Wizards had the first overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the focus centers on two top prospects: BYU’s AJ Dybantsa and Kansas’ Darryn Peterson.
Washington legend John Wall believes Peterson would be the right fit for his former team following Young’s extension, making for a good combination.
“Trae Young needs the ball in his hands to be Trae Young. AJ Dybantsa needs the ball to be who he needs to be; he’s not a guy who runs off pin downs, catch-and-shoot, spot-up guy,” Wall said via the Road Trippin Show.
While Dybantsa is the most favorable this year’s draft, it comes differently to the system as Peterson is a natural shooting guard at 6-foot-6.
“So, for me, if you’re going to keep Trae Young for me, I like Darryn Peterson because he has all that. He has everything to his game,” he added.
However, the former floor general could be right, but the Wizards should consider their promising guards in their roster, with Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington.
Peterson might fill the chemistry role along with Young, but the team needs more of a frontcourt player who can defend and score.
