Before becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, JJ Redick was known for its deadly perimeter shooting in modern basketball.
The former NBA shooting guard believes that Stephen Curry deserves to be called the greatest shooter of all-time.
During an appearance on “The Draymond Show,” Redick revealed his all-time top five shooters, placing Curry in the first spot, while Klay Thompson, Kyle Korver, Ray Allen, and Reggie Miller are followed in no particular order.
“Steph [Curry] is first. Everybody else is way down the list to me. In no particular order, the other four it’s Klay Thompson, Kyle Korver, Ray Allen, and Reggie Miller,” the Lakers head coach said.
Aside from ranking these shooters, he made a claim that players in the 1980s and 90s had completely different setups, especially from behind the arc.
“I don’t want to disparage the previous iteration of three-point shooters in the ’80s or the ’90s, but those guys were not shooting the shots we take today,” Redick explained.
Redick emphasized the quantity of shots shooters take in the modern era with tougher defenders, and it was not as easy as it looks.
“Those guys were not taking the difficult shots we were taking, nor were they shooting it at the volume. It was a different game, and the game has evolved. Now we put such a premium on generating three-point looks. It’s not just about the quality of the look. It’s the volume of looks,” he added.
