Jaylen Brown says envy created distance between him and the people closest to him as he became successful, making it harder to open up to those he once leaned on for his mental health
JB: “Envy shaped me just as much, you know, ’cause from family to friends and stuff, as I grew up from high school, even when I got a little older, a couple years into the league, it isolates you.”
“People that you used to lean on, you don’t even know if I can bring it, you can’t… because you don’t even, the relationship, the dynamic…”
“It’s different now. Now it’s space there, and now it’s like this somebody I relied on, that I needed for my own mental health because I got successful, I got to understand that I can’t even talk to my people the same.”
Lil Baby: “That’s a main thing too for people that look like us, especially men and successful. It’s like when you got all that… You know they want this, who do you talk to?
JB: “For me it’s been nobody.”
Lil Baby: “Me too. Myself.”
JB: “I be talking to my grandpa and he can’t even hear. Like, you hear me? And I’m still figuring it out.”
