The Trail Blazers have made one of the biggest moves of the offseason, acquiring Ja Morant from the Grizzlies in exchange for veteran forward Jerami Grant and young wing Kris Murray.
Memphis reportedly made Morant available as the franchise continues its major roster overhaul after previously trading Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr., signaling the end of the team’s previous core.
Morant remains under contract through the 2028-29 season after signing a five-year, $197 million extension in 2022.
The star point guard appeared in just 20 games last season, averaging 19.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 8.1 assists while dealing with injuries, trade speculation, and a one-game suspension following an on-court confrontation with head coach Tuomas Iisalo.
Portland is expected to field a crowded backcourt next season with Morant joining Damian Lillard, who is returning from a torn Achilles, along with Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson.
The franchise, now under owner Tom Dundon and first-year head coach Micah Nori, has also remained active in trade talks, including reported discussions with the Celtics involving Jaylen Brown.
Memphis receives Grant, who is under contract for $34.2 million next season and holds a $37.2 million player option for 2027-28, along with Kris Murray as the Grizzlies continue reshaping their roster.
