The Detroit Pistons’ ongoing effort to bring back Isaac Bonga is nearing a decisive stage.
According to Meridian Sport, sources close to the team indicate Detroit has made a strong case that Bonga belongs in the NBA and that the timing is right for his return.
While no official agreement has been finalized, momentum is building toward his exit from KK Partizan, with expectations growing that a move could happen within days as both sides align.
Bonga remains under contract through the 2026–27 season, but he holds the ability to trigger a release clause by paying a buyout of roughly $875,000.
The Serbian club had previously turned down midseason interest from multiple NBA teams, making this a significant shift.
The report suggests the clause could be activated around July 20, shortly after the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Bonga, who has prior NBA experience with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and Toronto Raptors, appears poised for a return after further development in Europe, including over 100 EuroLeague appearances.
