The Miami Heat have signed forward Ian Schieffelin, the team announced Friday, September 25. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Schieffelin, 25, joins Miami after spending four seasons at Clemson, where he developed into a productive frontcourt player. He appeared in 134 NCAA games for the Tigers, averaging 8.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from three-point range and 71.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Schieffelin steadily increased his production throughout his college career. As a freshman in 2021-22, he averaged 3.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 30 games while playing 11.6 minutes per contest. He improved to 5.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 34 games in 2022-23.
His production took a significant jump during the 2023-24 season. Schieffelin averaged 10.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in 37 games, shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 46.0 percent from three-point range.
As a senior in 2024-25, Schieffelin posted career highs of 12.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while adding 2.5 assists. He averaged 32.2 minutes over 33 games and shot 49.7 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from three-point range and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Schieffelin also impressed during the 2026 NBA Summer League, appearing in five games for Miami between the California Classic in San Francisco and the Las Vegas Summer League. He averaged 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from three-point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Schieffelin’s addition comes as the Heat continue to fill out their roster following an eventful offseason. Miami acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from Milwaukee in a blockbuster trade that sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis to the Bucks, along with multiple future draft assets.
The Heat also added veteran shooting around Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, signing Tim Hardaway Jr. and Klay Thompson while re-signing Simone Fontecchio. Miami also brought in Ryan Conwell and Nick Richards and currently has Tre Donaldson and Vladislav Goldin on two-way contracts.
Barry Jackson reported Friday that Miami has also agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with forward Ezra Ausar, although the agreement had not yet been signed at the time of the report. Jackson noted that Ausar’s deal would bring the Heat to the maximum 21 players.
That roster situation could limit Miami’s ability to add another available free agent unless the team makes a corresponding move. Jackson specifically mentioned D’Angelo Russell and Ryan Nembhard among players who would otherwise have no immediate roster spot.
