Heat seek upgrades after disappointing season exit

Although there were flashes of promise and development from younger players, the Heat’s season fell short of expectations and ended with a play-in defeat.

The organization now faces important decisions as it tries to reestablish itself as a contender in the Eastern Conference.

After bringing back Davion Mitchell and extending Nikola Jovic, Miami is unlikely to operate as a cap space team this offseason, but it still maintains meaningful financial flexibility, Yossi Gozlan explains in his offseason preview for The Third Apron.

The Heat currently have 13 roster spots filled, including a projected No. 13 pick in the 2026 draft, depending on how the lottery plays out.

The team also has the ability to trade up to four future first-round picks, which could open the door for a consolidation move, as Gozlan suggests.

In addition, Miami will have access to a $15.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception. In a two-part analysis for the Miami Herald, Barry Jackson identifies potential guard and wing targets such as CJ McCollum, Ayo Dosunmu, and Quentin Grimes.

The frontcourt remains another area of need, particularly at power forward.

Jackson notes that players like Rui Hachimura, Kristaps Porzingis, and John Collins could be options if the team chooses to use the mid-level exception to strengthen that position.
