Sinead Greenan and pilot Alice Sharpe claimed their second silver medal of the 2026 UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships in the Women’s B road race on Monday, bringing Ireland’s final medal tally in Huntsville, Alabama, to four.
Greenan and Sharpe completed the 82.8 km race in 2:03:30, the same time as Great Britain’s Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl, who took the world title after a closely contested finish. Italy’s Marianna Agostini and Noemi Lucrezia Eremita claimed bronze in 2:03:32, two seconds behind the winning tandem.
The result gave Greenan and Sharpe their second podium finish in three days. The pair also won silver in Saturday’s Women’s B individual time trial, their first World Championship race together, completing the 29.2 km course in 37:28.08 behind Irish teammates Katie-George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly.
Greenan said: “It is always hard not to be a little disappointed when you get so close to winning, but that is because we are so ambitious. We will work on that sprint and hopefully be on the right side of it next time. I am so proud of Alice and how she races. I could not ask for a better teammate. We only met three days before our first race, but I think we both realised very quickly that we were special on the bike together.”
Sharpe added: “We have a similar mindset. If someone had offered us silver before the race, we would have been delighted, but when you come so close on the line, you cannot help thinking about how close you were to gold. We cannot be disappointed with a silver medal at the World Championships in our first season of racing, and we are excited to see where this pairing can go.”
Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Linda Kelly finished seventh in Monday’s Women’s B road race in 2:03:37, just seven seconds behind the winners. Their Championships had already been marked by gold in the individual time trial, where they secured a fourth consecutive world title in 36:55.48.
Heather Jameson delivered Ireland’s first medal of the final day, claiming silver in the Women’s C2 road race on her World Championship debut. Jameson completed the 55.2 km race, which consisted of four laps, in 1:41:54, three seconds behind Switzerland’s Flurina Rigling. Jameson led home a group of six riders who were all credited with the same finishing time.
Richael Timothy placed sixth in the Women’s C3 road race, crossing the line in 1:32:19 after 55.2 km. Timothy finished five seconds behind China’s Xiaomei Wang, who won the world title in 1:32:14, and improved on her ninth place finish in Friday’s individual time trial.
In the Men’s B road race, Damien Vereker and pilot Mitchell McLaughlin finished ninth in 1:58:31, 45 seconds behind Spanish world champions Imanol Arriortua Zorrilla and Mikel Aristi Gardoki. Ciarán O’Toole and pilot Con Scully placed 16th in 2:10:07 on their World Championship debut. The Men’s B race covered seven laps and 96.6 km, with the winners averaging 49.22 km/h.
Hot conditions again shaped the final day. The National Weather Service recorded a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a heat index of 39 degrees Celsius in Huntsville during the afternoon. Under the UCI Hot Weather Protocol, the Men’s B and Women’s B road races had each been reduced by one lap.
The completion of the tandem road races brought Ireland’s racing at the 2026 UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships to a close. Ireland finished the four days of competition with four medals, comprising one gold medal and three silver medals.
