Trade speculation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo took another turn on Wednesday after veteran NBA reporter Tim Reynolds suggested that any potential deal involving the former MVP could also include Bobby Portis.
Reynolds wrote on X: “Not much to add on Giannis Watch, Day 5,206, but I can tell you this … There is a growing belief in some corners that the Giannis trade — if it happens, of course — will also include Bobby Portis.”
The report comes as league-wide attention remains fixed on Antetokounmpo’s future following a disappointing 2025-26 season for Milwaukee. The Bucks finished 32-50 and missed the postseason, a significant drop for a franchise built around one of the league’s most dominant stars.
Despite the team’s struggles, Antetokounmpo remained highly productive. The 31-year-old averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 36 games while shooting 62.4% from the field. His efficiency and interior scoring continue to place him among the NBA’s most valuable players, which is why any trade package would likely rank among the largest in league history.
Portis could be a meaningful addition to a blockbuster deal. The veteran forward averaged 13.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 67 games this season while shooting 48.8% from the field and a career-best 45.6% from three-point range. His production, contract value and ability to contribute immediately make him an attractive secondary asset in trade negotiations.
Reports in recent days have increasingly linked the Miami Heat to Antetokounmpo. According to reporting from Evan Sidery, a potential framework could feature a package built around Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware and the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, with additional assets such as Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and future first-round selections potentially involved.
From Milwaukee’s perspective, including Portis could serve multiple purposes. It could help balance salaries, increase the overall value of a transaction and accelerate a broader roster reset. The Bucks have reportedly prioritized packages that combine young talent, draft capital and players capable of contributing immediately.
