Fox Sports advertises for ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ $50,000 ‘World Cup Watcher’ job

Soccer enthusiasts dreaming of a summer immersed in the sport could find their ultimate fantasy job, as one individual is set to earn $50,000 for watching all 104 World Cup matches.

Fox Sports has partnered with the job platform Indeed to appoint a “Chief World Cup Watcher”, a role described as the best summer job available. The chosen candidate will undertake their duties from a bespoke glass cube situated in the heart of New York City’s Times Square.

The successful applicant will be required to view every minute of the games on Fox One, the official streaming service for the 2026 World Cup.

Their responsibilities will also include generating and sharing social media content, effectively transforming each match into a live viewing event for the thousands of tourists and commuters passing by.

“It will be the best summer job on the market, but only for one wild fan who is up to the once-in-a-lifetime task,” the companies stated in a press release.

Applications for this unique position are open via Indeed, with the winner scheduled to be unveiled on 6 June during Fox’s broadcast of the Major League Baseball fixture between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

This year’s World Cup, set to be the largest in history with 48 participating teams, will be co-hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July.

The first match will see co-hosts Mexico face South Africa in a repeat of the match that got the 2010 World Cup underway. Mexico will also play South Korea and Czech Republic in their group.

The US are due to play their opening game on 12 June against Paraguay, prior to further group stage matches against Australia and Turkey.

Meanwhile, Canada have been placed in a group alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland,
