The 2026 European Athletics Championships are nearing an end after a thrilling week of action in Birmingham.
A world-class field assembled was headlined by Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson – though her stop-start season continued as Audrey Werro, controversially advanced having fallen in her semi-final, pipped the home hope to the continental crown.
Hodgkinson’s training partner and new Commonwealth Games 800m champion Georgia Hunter Bell is still to come, with the middle distance runner prioritising the 1,500m. Britain’s new sprint star Amy Hunt stormed to victory in the 100m, dethroning defending champion Dina Asher-Smith, and completed a changing of the guard with 200m glory – the second of four possible golds at the championships.
In total, 10 reigning world champions will be in action, including legendary pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, while Norway’s Olympic 5,000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen made his long-awaited return from injury – having not competed at all in 2026 – by storming to a seventh European gold.
Here’s everything you need to know.
