Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic remains a dream signing for Panathinaikos AKTOR owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos, despite the significant obstacles surrounding a potential move to Europe.

The Greek businessman has made no secret of his admiration for the Serbian center and has previously discussed the possibility of bringing him to Athens.

His interest resurfaced Sunday when he shared an artificial intelligence-generated image showing himself considering the financial requirements of signing Jokic.

Although the post was humorous, it reflected Giannakopoulos’ longstanding ambition to attract one of the NBA’s biggest stars to Panathinaikos.

The club owner has previously explained that the biggest challenge would not necessarily be finding enough money to finance such a transfer.

Instead, Giannakopoulos believes the NBA’s competitive and commercial environment makes it extremely difficult for a player of Jokic’s stature to move to the EuroLeague while still at the peak of his career.

Jokic has spent his entire NBA career with Denver after being selected with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 draft.

Since then, the Serbian big man has become one of the league’s most influential players, earning three regular-season MVP awards and eight All-Star selections.

He also played a central role in Denver’s championship-winning campaign in 2023.

Despite his NBA success, Jokic maintains strong connections with European basketball through his involvement with the Serbian national team.

The center regularly represents his country in international competitions and follows developments in European club basketball.

Those connections have helped make him one of the most recognizable basketball figures among fans across Europe.

However, his international background does not mean a move to Panathinaikos is realistic in the near future.
