Brandon Davies’ surprise retirement from professional basketball has brought an end to a distinguished career that included stops in the NBA, Europe, and Japan.
The 34-year-old center requested his release, leading to a mutual contract termination with Alvark Tokyo, the B.League club announced on Thursday.
Davies began his professional journey after going undrafted out of Brigham Young University before building a reputation as one of the top big men in international basketball.
He played 78 NBA regular-season games with the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets after signing with Philadelphia in 2013.
During his best stretch with the 76ers, he averaged 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
His biggest achievements came in Europe, where he became one of the EuroLeague’s premier centers.
Davies was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2019 and the Second Team in 2021 while playing for Zalgiris, FC Barcelona, AX Armani Exchange Milano, and Partizan Mozzart Bet.
He also won domestic league titles in Lithuania, Spain, Italy, Serbia, and France.
Davies wrapped up his final season in Japan averaging 13.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Although he was expected to return to Alvark Tokyo, he instead chose to retire, ending an accomplished career.
