Brandin Podziemski is headed into one of the most important summers of his career, with the Golden State Warriors expected to begin extension talks with the third-year guard. Podziemski’s position in Golden State’s plans matters because the Warriors are already facing a complicated offseason across the roster. Podziemski made his case with the best season of his NBA career. He played all 82 games, one of only 18 players leaguewide to do that, and averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 28.5 minutes per game.
That durability stood out on a team that spent much of the year dealing with injuries and lineup changes. It also mattered late in the season, when Podziemski’s production improved and his role became more stable.
The 22-year-old’s path has not been without noise. He drew criticism from a section of the Warriors fan base earlier in the season, but he remained available every night and continued to build on the trust he has earned from head coach Steve Kerr.
Kerr has long been one of Podziemski’s strongest supporters, and that backing became more visible after Golden State’s regular-season finale. According to the reporting, Podziemski received an ovation from teammates in the locker room after the game, a sign that the organization values what he brought over a chaotic year.
For the Warriors, the decision is not just about sentiment. Podziemski’s extension could shape how the team manages future cap space, especially with so many larger contracts already in the pipeline.
That is where the tension comes in. Golden State has to decide whether locking in Podziemski now is part of keeping the current core intact, or whether waiting gives it more room to maneuver around bigger roster moves later.
