Bosna Sarajevo could be in line for a return to one of European basketball’s major competitions, with the historic club reportedly being considered for a potential EuroCup opening.
According to Serbian outlet “Meridian Sport,” Bosna is a candidate to take the spot that could become available amid Monaco’s expected departure from French professional basketball.
Bosna competed in both the FIBA Europe Cup and ABA League last season and has been working its way back into the European basketball picture.
The Sarajevo club carries significant history. Under legendary coach Bogdan Tanjevic, Bosna developed into a major force during the 1970s, led by European basketball icon Mirza Delibasic.
Its greatest achievement came in 1979, when Bosna captured the European Champions Cup, the predecessor of today’s EuroLeague.
Svetislav Pesic also has deep ties to the club, representing Bosna as a player during the 1970s before later coaching the team in the 1980s.
A EuroCup place would mark another major step in Bosna’s return to the continental stage.
