
An extra-time goal from 17-year-old substitute Sam Rooney sealed a remarkable turnaround for St Patrick’s Athletic yesterday, as they came from two goals behind to eliminate holders Shamrocks Rovers from the FAI Cup with a 3-2 victory at Richmond Park.
First half finishes from Jonathan Afolabi and Michael Noonan gave the visitors a two-nil lead in Inchicore, but Luke Turner halved the deficit for Stephen Kenny’s side after the break, and Aidan Keena stretched the game beyond 90 minutes with a stoppage time penalty.
Pat’s will join their Dublin rivals Bohemians in the quarter-final draw after they eased to a four-nil win at home to Longford Town last night.
