Anthony Joshua has revealed he has been getting help from Peter Fury, rival Tyson Fury’s uncle and old trainer, ahead of his long-mooted British super-fight with ‘The Gypsy King’.

Joshua and Fury faced off for the first time at a launch press conference at Olympia London on Wednesday, six days after finally announcing their bout for 11 December at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.

’AJ’ already has a former Fury ally in his corner, teaming with another of Fury’s ex-trainers in Ben Davison – who also trains the likes of Fabio Wardley and Moses Itauma – with the hope he can give him the edge.

But Joshua now says he is in contact with Peter, the brother of Fury’s outspoken dad John, who has become estranged from ‘The Gypsy King’ since the pair split as fighter and trainer following his world title win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

“I speak to Peter Fury, he’s willing to help me,” Joshua said. “Me and Peter get along.”

Asked if Peter has given him imparted much valuable wisdom, Joshua added: “Yeah, but not about Fury, but our training and our approach, how I can approach the fight. Not sort of, ‘Fury does this’; it was more, ‘I’ve seen what you do, and this is where he thinks he can improve’.

“It goes back to saying that everybody wants me to win, everybody’s going tell me how to win, but the most important person to listen to is myself at this point in my career. So I’ve got to take everything with a pinch of salt.

“But what I was saying is it wasn’t so much to [get] Ben and Peter to go to people that have worked with Fury before. The reason why I worked with them is because they pinpoint things.”

Joshua says he has spoken to Peter as recently as a month ago, with it appearing Fury’s uncle will play a key role in Joshua’s camp, which will head to continental Europe in the coming weeks.

But his relationship with Davison is one that has been rekindled, having previously worked together between December 2023 and November 2025. He trained him for three fights, the last being Joshua’s empathic knockout loss to Daniel Dubois.

Joshua has been able to look past the shortcomings of his corner that fight and believes the partnership of Davison with Peter could make him unstoppable.

He said: “Dubois was completely wrong, and that’s where he managed to get the knockout. But I do identify there’s things that I think I could’ve done better. So I wouldn’t put all that blame on Ben.

“What I’ve got to do is take control of my fight with Fury, but also add their touch, and with these two powerhouses coming together, I think it will be a match made in heaven. I do believe that.”

Fury admitted he was disappointed to hear that Davison has teamed up with ‘AJ’, having previously taken a neutral stance to their rivalry in an effort to not get in the middle of things.

“Is it confirmed? That’s deflating, isn’t it Frank,” Fury said, sitting beside promoter Frank Warren, before offering a reminder that Davison is not always the answer.

“ Don’t forget, I left Ben Davison to go with SugarHill [Steward] because he wasn’t good enough, and this is the same Ben Davison who Anthony Joshua left because he wasn’t good enough when he got knocked out after Dubois, and it’s the same Ben Davison who everyone said, “Oh, he’s this, he’s that, he’s this, he’s that,” and now they’re going back to him.

“Isn’t this the same Ben Davison that just cost a billion-dollar athlete his career? So that gives me encouragement. That gives me happiness. He’ll probably go out there, get told to throw a jab and throw an uppercut, get himself chinned.

“The one thing that Ben can’t do is put muscles on his chin, and that’s the end of it.”

Fury also claimed he will snub a patient approach in the ring on 11 December and instead pursue an aggressive, yet risky, strategy from the first bell, suggesting the fight is unlikely to go the full 12 rounds.

Fury said: “I’m going to come out, blast him out of there, it’ll be gunfight at the O.K. Corral. I’m not going to box, I’m going to throw down, I’ll catch him, and when I do, it’ll be curtains. That’s it.”
